Director (R&D) Engineer
Job Summary
The Director of R&D is responsible for leading and managing the execution of the strategic initiatives in new product development. The R&D group will drive the development of new products from ideation to commercialization. They will be adept at leading others and working cross-functionally, as well as collaborating with various stakeholders and departments including Business Development, Marketing, Quality & Compliance, Operations, and Procurement. The right candidate is a master of forecasting, planning, and execution and can drive a project plan to successful completion purposefully and expeditiously.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for leading and managing development of new products and new solutions in the field of Thermal Management (Heat Exchangers and Thermal Systems) for the Aviation industry.
- Responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, in accordance with the Corporate Strategic Plan
- Promote the corporate vision and ensure alignment within the organization
- Assure qualification testing procedures are in place and cooperate with manufacturing in the scale-up of new products in qualification processes
- Promote a productive R&D culture that is motivated and accountable having a customer focus on innovation, quality, and improving the user experience
- Explore new technologies and approaches, and determine their applicability, while keeping abreast of competitive products and technology advances
- Represent the R&D group on a new product development process - aiding to set project priorities and responsible for R&D resource allocation
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering / Aeronautical Engineering or similar field of study
- Minimum of 10+ years’ experience as an R&D Director in the Aerospace / Aviation industry
- Minimum of 10+ years’ experience developing Thermal Management Solutions / Heat Exchangers for the Aerospace / Aviation industry
- Experience in qualification process of products for the aviation industry
- Experience with implementation of best practices in innovation with a customer centric approach to product development
- Demonstrated project management skills, including, project planning, project budgeting and the development of project timelines
- Familiarity in meeting regulatory requirements in new product development and commercialization
- Experience as an effective leader, project team player, and motivator; an individual that has the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels within a team environment, both domestically and internationally
- Demonstrated ability to manage people in both formal line management and fluid matrix environments, and across formal and informal business lines
- Demonstrated ability in developing staff
- Ability to demonstrate creative ability in solving technology issues when developing new products
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing experts, and high qualified personnel, to achieve state of the art development and innovation objectives by implementing best practices
- Ability to bring into the final line a product starting at the initiation state and ending by a serial production product
- Familiarity with production methods and processes for manufacturing Heat Exchangers
- Familiarity with the variety of materials which are used to manufacture heat exchangers
- Ability to communicate and negotiate with customers about technical issues
- Deep knowledge in the standards which are common in the Aviation industry
